Forum topic: First Post - ADHD Wife

Alright, this is going to be a bit of a ramble, but, painting the picture.

husband and wife 38/37 - 4 kids (10 (also ADHd), 8, 5, 1) - ADHD wife

So, I'm at a little bit of a loss here. My wife was diagnosed about 2 years w/ ADHD which was no surprise to either of us. It was a "yeah, that makes sense" type of diagnosis.

jumping right in; the rage and anger are absolutely out of control. She's tried a few meds, vyvanse worked for a while, then became too expensive, so about a month ago doc prescribed aderral xr, and it worked, but, she's also nursing and the correlation between her starting that and our babies sleep was a direct correlation. So, she stopped and the rage wowowow! How long does this last?

ok, this isn't as eloquent as I would've liked it to be, but, my first post. I'm hoping to learn of others experiences with this.

Because she is still nursing, The anger and rage could be exacerbated by hormone fluctuation.

Fully agree, but, the pendulum swings are so far. It's partly why I noted this, but, it's to the point where the excuses I've had to make for her to myself are a bit unbelievable.

Did she have 'rage issues' before she started medications?  Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria could ramp up the rage.  With ADHD/RSD a person goes from level 1 immediately to level 10 rather than level 1 to level 2... Boom.  Does she acknowledge her expressions of rage are unwarranted?  Or does she not see it at all?

Less intense though.

RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) causes a very limited ability to control emotions....My ADD wife has it, but, it usually will lay somewhat dormant until she can't inflict her will...(told no on something she is trying to force on me or family)...Then she will explode...I try to always walk away from these episodes....They can't be rationalize with, or even hear...It's mental illness, treat it as such and don't engage it....Make her own it by non-participation...IF you open your mouth to attempt to quail it, you will always be the target for blame...That has always just allowed my wife to let herself off the hook from ownership....Which she avoids at all cost anyway...

Be wise!

Bless you!
